Conference History
In October 2003, the Fundação Casa de Rui Barbosa (FCRB) and the Museu de Astronomia e CiênciasAfins (MAST)joined forces to promote the first conference in Brazil for professionals to discuss the preservation of documents produced in a science and technology environment. Since then the two institutions have been organizing the Conference on Scientific Archives every two years, without interruption, aiming to promote reflection and debate about the management and preservation of archives produced by the activities of science and technology.
Chronology of the Conferences on Scientific Archives:
2003 – First Conference on Scientific Archives
Themes: preserving scientific institutional memory; records managementprogrammes; the importance of records management; how scientists see institutional memory; why is important to rescue the historical documents of institutions.
2005 – 2nd Conference on Scientific Archives (22nd and 23rd September)
Themes: Concepts and characteristics of scientific archives; institutional and personal scientific archives: problems to be faced.
2007 – 3rd Conference on Scientific Archives (26 and 27th September)
Theme: Uses and users of scientific archives.
2009 – 4th Conference on Scientific Archives and SUV/ICA Annual Conference (8 -11th September)
Themes: Organization, management and preservation of the archives produced by scientific and technological practices.
2011 – 5th Conference on Scientific Archives (26 -30 th September)
Themes: Policies of acquisition and preservation of university and research institution archives; creating scientific collections: acquisition policy as a strategy of creating and preserving the scientific memory; acquisition and preservation policies: the institutional challenge of knowing by whom, how and why what must be acquired and preserved is defined; researchers, archivists and conservators: the dialogue on the search of policies and directions for the preservation of the scientific heritage.

Themes: Legislation and access to the archives of science and technology; Limits on access to documents of scientific research
2015 – 7th Conference on Scientific Archives (24th -26th June)
Themes: Records Management and Access to Information: challenges and guidelines for institutions of teaching and research;Records management and its connection to society; Research activities and records management.
