:: CHEMISTRY IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE, THE EARTH, AND THE BODY ::

The exhibition Chemistry in the History of the Universe, the Earth, and the Body shows Chemistry as the science of the transformation of materials, through a historical approach with its implications on daily social life. In three modules it runs along a timeline which shows the history of Chemistry related to the elements Universe, Earth, and Body, which panels, ambiences, videos, and projections.

A twentieth century laboratory, represented through an ambience, including a worktop on which are placed flasks, scales, centrifuges and other scientific apparatus used in the study of Chemistry. In addition, the exhibition invites visitors to also get to know another ambience, that of a fifteenth century alchemy laboratory.

In the first module, Universe, the image of a galaxy helps to explain Chemistry as an agent of the origin and evolution of the world. The Earth module covers the evolution of Chemistry through the centuries and presents the chemical elements and related studies. To better understand the subjects covered, an enormous periodic table is used.

The final module of the exhibition, about the Body, deals with the relationship of Chemistry as a science which allows the manipulation of structures of the living being. The projection of an info-drawing conceived on the basis of Vitruvian Man is accompanied by texts by Louis Pasteur and Marie Curie, winner of the Noble prize for Physics in 1903, for the discovery of radioactivity, and Chemistry in 1911, for the discovery of the radium and polonium elements and for investigating their properties.

Shown in this session are interviews with important specialists, such as the Professor of the Institute of Chemistry of Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Francisco Radler de Aquino Neto, who coordinates anti-doping activities in the sporting sphere, and is a member of the commissions of the National Sports Council of the Ministry of Sport, and the Brazilians confederations of Cycling, Surfing, Rowing, and Water Sports.
